When you say "if it comes across as rushed or forced", are you talking about feedback you anticipate to receive, or is this more of a self-diagnosis story development ("This doesn't sit right with me") kind of thing?
That would be my self-diagnosis, for sure. I'm eager to see what people will think once I get a demo up, though.

I enjoy a small amount of romance. But it definitely needs to be built up a lot first. I don't wanna meet some person and then bam they are in love. They have to have history together, building their relationship. But the great thing with relationships is that EVERYONE in the world experiences it. It will help a player feel a stronger connection. Relationships like in Fable are my favorite type. It doesn't have to be done, but can be done when wanted.

I cant decide if romance presence is good or not, and if i like it or not, but, romance presence in games are like, seasoning in food. without them, the food will not taste delicious. IMO.

Well, if you're going with that comparison, I suppose I'll just dabble some cinnamon on my spaghetti.

Not all seasonings works with all food. It needs to compliment the story, not just be there because it's nice.

I love to have good romance in games, especially how it was done in FF8 and ToS2. Love done in stories can make characters grow a lot!

However, I usually don't care for the side quest romances in games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age (even though I loved the games themselves) because they don't feel like an actual part of the story. True endings and canon are usually the main reason for that opinion.

If I know the ending wasn't intended, I can never actually complete the story in my mind with an optional ending package. I still do however enjoy romantic interactions, even if I know they weren't "canon".

Romance can be a bad thing for me too- I didn't care for the FF13 romance with Snow and his fiancee, since it started before the story even really began.

A game with a complete lack of romance is very boring for me though. I like to watch love bloom, even it is subtle or scarce, but not forced like how it was done in Star Ocean 4.

My opinions are a bit mixed, I know! Romance is definitely a challenging concept to deliver well.

I really love romance in games and sometimes will buy a game solely because it has romance (and a female protagonist) either as a sub or main plot that I can influence with my choices. games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age do it best for me, also Persona 3 Portable! all great examples of stuff I like.

Visual Novels, while a lot of them are based primarily on romance, are usually VERY poorly written. the romance is either really rushed or gets to a point where I cannot relate with the protagonist anymore. the story usually becomes pressed for new, interesting content as it goes on and almost always lacks a variety of choices that really impact the flow of the story.

so yeah in short, a good romance can really make a game for me. all the better if it has a female protag I can play and relationships I can pursue/characters I can influence with my own choices.

You summed up my thoughts for me. saves me from typing another long post thanks.
that being said is anybody currently making a romantic comedy or a game with romance in it at all?
I haven't said anything about my game on the forum yet, but it (my game) does have a romance in it. It's not a serious one, however it is a large part of the story that I created.
