Currently this is my desktop.
I'm a stickler for having a clean desktop.
I also recently sorted out my documents which had 666 files strewn about, and did some spring-cleaning, a defrag, virus scans, registry repair, etc.
Have over a third of my hard drive freed up now. It's a 1TB ton-o-fun. I'd had only 50 gigabytes left the day prior.
I never understood the whole no icons thing. I'm curious, why do you avoid desktop icons? I mean, as long as you keep up on the organization/cleanliness of your desktop it won't really obscure your wallpaper, which is the main thing that comes to mind.
I can't speak for cunechan, but I can relay why I choose to not belittle my desktop with icons.
My desktop has no use for shortcuts, I-- have no use for shortcuts on a field which is out of view the moment I have any single application open (this includes windows explorer). That's why all my important programs are on the taskbar, it's quicky and easy to access and is always available, except in the scenario I'm playing a full screen game, which is fine, because at that point, I've no need to access it.
My desktop is my pride space, it's where I look at only twice during a typical computer session, on bootup, then on close down. Cluttering it with icons, sans the recycle bin, is a completely pointless and ugly endeavor. I never use desktop shortcuts. I'm more comfortable with pressing the windows key and putting in a keyword and finding whatever I want that way.
Often, I like to have music while I work, say I wanted to play Megalovania dual mix, I could... have a desktop shortcut leading to the folder in which it's contained, but frankly...
