Thank you for the technique help! For me it's trial and error, so if you can help me avoid the error part of that, I'll be very grateful. I'll keep your suggestion in mind moving forward. I have some specific questions too, but I'll PM you about those :)

The neck bones (vertebrae) are original as are a couple other parts, but it's mostly synthesis from the RTP, like most of my tilesets. The larger face is heavily modified RTP. Everything I post is either RTP synthesis/recolor or original. I never use anyone else's edits or originals in my work...

Is there a reason why screen tinting won't work for what you're trying to do? I can easily tint the standard tiles, but you could just tint the screen in-game for that effect.
