What Year Did You Join Your First BBS/Forum?

I remember my first BBS. I had a Commodore64. I had a 300 baud external modem. The year was 1986. How do I remember that year so good? It was the year I met my first girl friend, through a blind date, whose mom set up the BBS. Her mom had a Tandy 1000. It took something that powerful to run a BBS. It was also the year, I went to boot camp. I also met her best-friend before leaving for boot camp. My best friend and my girl friend wrote me a 'Dear John' letter. I ended up marrying her best friend (27 years and counting). So yes, I do remember my first BBS experience. 1986.

My first ever community I believe when I was first learning to use ActionScript with Flash MX. I signed up to http://www.flashkit.com to harass members to teach me to program and make my own games, haha I was so young and annoyed so many peeps. Then after that community, I signed up to http://kirupa.com and I still have a username there, and remember it. These communities were to teach me how to program in ActionScript, I never learned much but I learned enough that it helped me make plugins today, so I'm happy. They were excellent communities the Kirupa forum was the friendliest out of the two.

300 Baud. Step 1: Type and send sentence. Step 2: Make sandwich. Step 3: Eat sandwich. Step:4 Repeat Steps 2& 3 again. Step 5: Check to see if reply came. NOTE: Both people ARE on BBS at same time.

Hey, that sounds like a C64 when loading an EA game. :) My dad wanted me to experience REAL "retro" with cassette tape drives and such.

I know what a BBS is though, that's really old school.

The first community I joined was rpgmakervx.net (RIP) back in 2007. I liked the community a lot, though I was really never super active until I started learning to sprite.

I'm the same as Amy, the first forum I joined was rpgmakervx.net (RIP).
I was never really active, and the reason I signed up was to like, put a script request or something. Then I became a bit active, but eventually I stopped posting due to me not having any content, IIRC.

I might have (technically) joined other forums back then, but I don't think they were significant enough. (also that would mean I was still really young!) vx.net was the first one I actually tried to be in. Or I just don't remember. XD

I think the first forum I joined was the Chaos Theatre Forums. Not quite sure what year that was since that site underwent quite a few changes over the time. I think they're on version three now and I joined back when it was still version one. Wasn't very active back then though. And neither am I today. However that forum was what ultimately introduced me to RPG Maker. They had a game made based on that forum and its users and it was made with VX. I developed interest in that engine and started looking into it myself. Without that forum and their game I wouldn't be here now. :3

My first forum was the official Tales of forum... I think that was around 12 years ago.

@Micro started foruming before me, so I probably joined my first forum a little after that. I think it was some health related forum. I never did hang out on that Tales forum though. RP was never an area of interest for me.

The Bioware Neverwinter Nights Forums... if that counts.

Otherwise; RRR was my first forum (joined 2007-ish), it'd also be the first I'd get banned from.

Past Kaimen, you got such a bad memory dude. What about the VGMusic.com forums that you joined way before that, huh? The Chaos Theatre was two or three years after that. So yeah, there. Now I got it right. XD

The first BBS, I mentioned earlier, was mainly for RPG; my first writing forum was WritersBeat. I will make my 10th anniversary with them next month. That was my first moderator position. I remember some awesome debates in there. We actually had a debate forum. Most of my contributions were in poetry and discussions (debates).

I joined the Bungie.net forum back in 2006/7 and a pivot stick figure animator forum around the same time.
I thought they were a lot of fun, so I kept joining other forums, and eventually joined @Xyphien's pivot forum.

Then, I followed his trail of forums all the way here.

No idea when that was though. It's renamed to ABXY and still going, I think.

First forum I ever joined was my own. http://pivotxd.forumotion.com/ 10 April 2009. I have never heard of a forum, or seen one until then. I found a pivot animators forum and he showed me how to make it, and that is what sparked my interest in making forums.
