So lets say I wanna throw someone off that cliff and into the water... (pic below) Any idea's of a cool way to accomplish that?

I'm also wanting to make tutorial events to explain different mechanics ect. Is there a way to control the main menu from an event?

Yes there is a way to control the screen from an event just make the event and in the third page there is scene control and select open menu screen, or return to tile screen. Depending on what screen you want of course. And as for the animation I think there's a few ways to do this.
For the player to do this you can make the NPC back up every time the player bumps into him then changing the event to an animation of a splash when reached to the edge then after the animation delete the event.
Or for NPC1 to push NPC2 you can do the same thing just make the NPC1 move towards NPC2.
Hope this helps you!

In terms of throwing someone off a cliff, do you actually want them to be picked up and thrown or just pushed.
If you want them to be picked up and thrown you'd need to make some sprites for the animation for that using the existing character sprites as a base, it would probably need to play out as a cutscene and have the normal character sprites become transparent at some point. I have done this with a scene I was making where a mother was placing her baby down on a pedestal which turned into quite a long event mostly due to all the changes between different images. It's worth doing if it's the effect you want and you can take the time to make it work.
Being pushed will require less work in terms of creating new sprites for the throwing animation.
In both cases I would recommend using a splash sound effect after a slight delay rather than a visual effect to show that there is a distance between the top of the cliff and the water below, given the point of view in the screen shot above unless they were being thrown quite a distance off the cliff I wouldn't expect to see them hit the water below but that's just my preference.

I'd probably make a spritesheet with the person who wants to throw the person down, holding the person and having the one facing in different directions and looking scared more or less. Then a sprite with the "thrower" hopding his/her hands up, suddenly without the other person. It's hard to make something like this work or look really cool soooo XD

It's even harder than a falling animation i guess. Usually I'd say "hey, you can look how other people managed to do that ;)" but that's just not the case since I hardly see someone who made it convincing, you know what i mean XD the others probably have better ideas. Anyways good luck~
