Hello, I'm Shaen... I'm making a game.

I'm 30. I first used RPG Maker 2000 when I was in high school many years ago. It was the first thing I ever learned about programming concepts.

I'd like to point out that... I'm not a professional programmer. I've taken classes in C and Ruby, and I'm familiar with how to code, but I don't do it as a job, and I've yet to write any JS code yet for my game.

I put myself down as a programmer for my profile because, I'm pretty decent at programming within the program itself. I understand how to use all the tools. I'm good with logic. Etc, etc. I'm sure many people have more experience than me, as I haven't used this program in years, but I'm not new.

I was really just checking out MV and was impressed with how much its improved since 2000. And... I ended up working on a game that I kind of like.

If I was being honest, I'm probably a much, much, much better writer than I am an RMMV programmer. But, saying that you're a writer is like saying that you don't know how to use the program. :P

But, that said, the writing and the programming and the making of the game is all that I'm good at.

I'm horrible at art. I really can't produce anything good in the visual department. But... I'm hoping that I can put out a demo of my game using freely available content for art and showcase what I can do. Maybe some artist will want to jump on board my project. Maybe not. Either way, it will be a fun, cool little game.

I joined here mainly to share ideas and problems with my coding.

Good evening, xxxxx, and ...

... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. A lot can be done with the 'standard' Tiles and Characters, and there's a plethora of Resources on this Forum.

I basically just use whatever art I can find to make a game and write. Because I am a fairly competent writer, I think I can get away with making a game worth playing in spite of not having any artistic skills.

The most difficult part is tilesets, though. What I feel is lacking the most in RMMV is a sufficient variety of tile set locations. Right now I'm more focused on developing aspects of the game, so right now the maps I've made are enough until I've finished working on that.

But eventually, I'm going to need to find some available tilesets that people don't mind me using.

Anyway, here's an example and 7 screen shots of the same event in my game.

What you see is... My game has non combat skills, one of such is "Survival."

If your score in survival is low, your character will not think to pick the mushrooms.
If it's a little higher, he will pick them, but he will not know that they are mixed with poisonous mushrooms. He will obtain three doses of the "mysterious mushroom," which has a 50% of poisoning and increases mana minimally.
If survival is high enough though, you can pick out the good "magical mushrooms" which fully generate mana with no chance of poison.

Notice also, the dialogue for giving the answer, "no"

Events like this are everywhere in my game. Other skills include Athletics and Academia for the time being.
