I've written short stories and a few poems and ONE essay for a few digest mags. Nothing important or monetarily useful, but it helped pay for some chips back in the 90s! :D The only genre stuff I've written was light Sci-Fi and Horror. I really haven't written anything other than a few outlines for a while though. I found editors to be... NOT fond of my points of view, I'm too old fashioned now is my guess.
