I think I figured out what Arbeza is talking about. I had the same problem at one point.
This comment was enough information. You have an
autorun event that has nothing after displaying the picture and erasing it. This means you have the event
constantly showing the picture AND deleting it at the same time. It's repeating itself at the standard frame rate so it looks like nothing is working when you erase. You cannot have something constantly displaying a picture and something constantly deleting that picture at the same time.
To fix this issue, you can do the following:

Show Picture
2. Control Self Switch :
A to
ON
3. Click
New Event Page

EVENT PAGE 2
4. Conditions : Self Switch :
A
5. Click
Contents and
Erase Picture

You can now toggle between turning the picture ON and OFF.
