I recall a member here saying they could not edit their original post, I totally forgot which thread or whom but I want to make sure this is not happening to everyone. So, I'm wondering if members who read this can check out some of their old threads and see if they can edit them and report back with the link if you cannot.

I think someone mentioned it in the thread "post count drop fix", think it was biz but not sure. Cant edit posts which are older than 24 hours btw but didn't Xiffy say so in this thread?

Alright thanks guys. Knowing Xiffy he probably accidentally changed permissions for editting when he changed it for deleting lol. Its all good I'll send him a message and tag him here so we get this sorted out. In the meantime anyone that needs there posts or topics edited just let us mods know by reporting the post, you can easily create a new post in the topic and we can merge it with the post you want Thanks everyone :).

Alright... So, I looked into this, and eustis, we have a problem. The Deleting/Editing is linked. So, you have to have both or none. You can either delete your topics and edit your posts, or you can't delete your topics and edit your posts... I'll look into a fix for this, however, if you all can post a message saying which one you'd more rather we can discuss it with the rest of the staff and decide what to do from there.

@Xyphien,
Being able to edit your own topics is pretty crucial - or there wouldn't be a point in having game projects forum. Or anything that requires updated data after a some time.

I would definitely prefer to have editing over not having editing, even if it means having a delete button I could accidentally press. I'll just have to be careful, as would the rest of us on this forum. No editing means the main post for each thread can never change itself; if people like me want to show off resources as they make them, it's pretty crucial to be able to edit the main post.
Edit: Thank goodness I didn't wait 24 hours to say this, but is there some sort of problem with the delete button I don't know about? I would assume the only problem would be accidentally pressing it.

The problem with the delete button which is an issue that already happened ,is that someone can go around deleting all there topics affecting everyone post count who replied to their topic. Now obviously edittig is super important and its something needed for those sharing resources and projects but the delete button on the other hand is uneeded by anyone but moderators. No worries though us staff will figure things out.

Yeah I I can't edit my posts anymore, really inconvenient..

It's VERY easy to set permissions to not let people delete their topics or posts though.

I wonder why delete and edit are even linked in the first place XD they're two completely different things and it's dangerous to click the wrong one

Alright, so I removed this option. To solve the issue, I've added a 10th rule saying you are unable to delete your own topics. If found doing this, you will be placed on a restricted account. Those who have done this in the past, and are the reason of this will be placed on the restricted account effective immediately. I hope all this helps everyone.

I agree with this Xyphien, I'd like to add a bit to that though, if you want to delete a post don't hesitate to report it and ask for it to be deleted. If what you posted is something you don't want visible to the community then quickly edit the post and erase the content and report the thread and a moderator will be glad to get it all sorted out for you.

awesome, thanks Xyph! didn't want to be forced to make tons of double posts and get them merged in case I needed to edit haha xD

I have a question: when you want to report a topic to delete it but just the first post you made (so the topic post) and report it, what happens then ?

You'd just have to remove the content from the first post, and that is it. If it's a dead, inactive, or negative post we could always just move it to an archived section of the forum (Trash)

I love how I mentioned this weeks ago and you slow dummies only just got on it recently.

I mentioned it first in an actual response here, but obviously you guys don't listen for shit so I then made a bit more of a snarky response on the post count drop fix.
@Cunechan,
Nope, he only mentioned you can't delete you own post after 24 hours, but I guess that affected editing it as well.
And contrary to this post, I did in fact say you can't edit posts, look again.

The amount of ignorance around here is fucking staggering.
