Hey-o!

Okay, so, we have the automatic merging of double-posts here, which is nice.... except when I'm updating a thread for the fourth time in a row and every single post gets smashed together. That's kind of a mess. :S

Can we have it so there's a time limit at which this won't happen? The usual time is 72 hrs, which would be fine, imo. If double-posting becomes a problem, well, that's why we have a report button and staff members. XD

I thought the merging was a great idea, but I can understand why it's not everyone that enjoys it. Especially for the reasons you mentioned. I would suggest instead something like an option for the thread we opened, or posts we did to allow the options of merging or not (if that's possible of course).

Hmmm... I'm not sure if making it an option is a possibility, but it'd be a nice feature if it is.

I also thought it was a great idea at first, and it is, but only for the first 2 posts, lol. It doesn't work so well for topics that don't have many outside comments. :)

You mean so that we may not have to put an UPDATE, LATEST UPDATE, NEXT UPDATE, etc., all in the same thread, if we do not want to busted for double posting. I do understand the need to not have massive double/triple posting assaults, but I do understand that continual merging or editing of a post, may not let interested other members to see latest update.

That's exactly what I mean, yes. :)

Basically, the change would make it so double-posts within 72 hours of each other would be combined. Any posts beyond that would be separate. If someone still wants their posts combined, they can report it to a moderator.

That's what I was thinking as well. I'm not saying that some sort of feature that pares down the dreaded Double Post isn't a good thing, I for one try to avoid it. But what if the post you're making is some sort of in-site journal or you're providing updates on a project and nobody has commented to your previous post in quite a while. There should be a feature when, if the following post is past 72 hours, or some other timeframe, the option should be given to have it be a new post in the thread, Marked as a subsequent post rather than a doubled one.

Most of us try our best to avoid Double Posting, but some cases you can't just get away from it.

BLOOP! I've added this :D

Thank you all for taking the time to voice your opinions on the matter, it's always helpful to see the community giving me ideas on how to improve the site! I've changed this, and for doing such, I've marked this solved and moved to the correct location.
