A Question on Resource Use

Hey there folks! I've spent quite a bit of time on my first game recently. It's not something I plan on publishing at any point, but more for the experience with the program than anything else. Anyway, I've used of custom resources, all permitted for use, of course, in their original post by their respective creators. My game is a fairly standard medieval RPG, but I began to wonder: if somebody were to create a less "standard" game using such resources, something the creator of said resources might not have considered their art used for (Like games slanted towards a more mature audience, or something with a political or humanitarian agenda for instance), would that be a breach of the authors' terms of use, even if not explicitly stated? It seems like such a murky issue using someone else's material after all.

If it's not specifically stated, then you technically wouldn't be breaking their terms of use. It's just part of the risk of putting your work out there.

My advice would be to ask the creator directly if you aren't sure how you can use their resources. Most creators don't mind if their resources are put into a particular type of game (mature or otherwise), but some are a bit more wary of that kind of thing. Usually a simple PM or email can clear it all up. (cheeky)

Well i do some of my own art as you may know. As for me I don't care what type of game you are making when it come to that subject. As long as you and the people you are making your game for are enjoying your self that is what matters to me.
I can't talk for everyone only my self. Hope that helps. Use mine all you want hun. Just enjoy making your game.

Amy summed it up perfectly. In my experience, most people who have an issue with certain game types, ideas or genres will explicity state as such in their TOS. But if at any stage you have an issue, just pop an email, pm, etc to the resource developer to clarify. People would prefer you clarify first rather than having potential issues down the line.
