It would contain to updates, events, future events, winners of stuff, etc. It doesn't sound like too much but we will be doing lots of events :D
Well... it does sound like a lot of work. you would need a community manager for that...
For myself, would i like to have an email with updates and such.. yes, but maybe not for all.
I'm all for an email, but as eivl said not everyone will care. So I thought what about a specific thread in the forum announcments that the staff members can add to and update everyday. With winners, contests going on, featured games, etc etc. Either way I'm happy to see this happen in email or in a thread.
This would work, make it a thread we can Watch, (thus getting notifications if we choose to have that enabled), and locked so only Mods/Staff can post to it? That would "essentially" be a Newsletter-type-notification option, without fiddling around with more plugns for the forum, yes? :)
It's not a plugin for the forum :) it's built into almost all hosting plans. :D

I get weekly e-mails from all sorts of stuff; I'm not sure I'd sign up for one for this forum. I already come in daily and check notifications and breeze through any new posts and content. Maybe if there were specific announcements, like big contests, etc. I'd check if I were involved. Is there a way to do big e-mails for people who have signed up for a particular contest, to notify them that way?

Most of my subscriptions for updates on things (and there I have a lot coming in) get skimmed over nowadays. I think having the newsletter for major updates as a kind of forum extension will be much better. That way you might be able to showcase them weekly, as sub-forum articles, including the "hottest topics" for the week.
