You know I have tried learning Mandarin, I gave up fairly quickly. Is japanese easier ?
The thing with Mandarin is, it's hard at the beginning and gets progressively easier over time. Japanese is the other way around. It's kinda easy at the beginning but once you get into the real stuff, things get hard. And I'm not just talking Kanji. The general grammar later on can be brutal. :D

hmm that's interesting, I suck at grammar in english it would fly over my head in Japanese , though I am open to learning, I may take a look at what's available online.

I learned one thing in Japanese. There's no plural :D
There is actually. But only if you want to emphasize that you're talking about multiple things. :D
You just add "-tachi" at the end of a noun. Like "watashi-tachi" means "we". :P

Japanese grammar early on is very logic based. The thing about the particles ("wa", "no", etc.) is, it's all very systematic.

You were right though. Generally, there is no distinction between singular and plural. :D
I'm only beginner level is "Watashi wa Jon-san" correct?
Never, ever call yourself "-san". That's considered rude and arrogant. :D
Just leave the "-san" away and introduce yourself with "Watashi wa [first name, last name] desu." You can also leave away either the "watashi wa" or the "desu". Japanese is all about keeping sentences as short as possible. :D
