"Designer" skill a bit broad?

I was thinking about the RM cskills classification, "designer."

Generally speaking I understood it as a catch all, and I don't mean that to devalue the role or ability by any means. However, I know some people are great at designing maps while others are much better for designing mechanics; one is more visual and the other more technical and analytical. Both are equally important and definate skills by their own right, but still somewhat mutually exclusive.

Would it be more helpful for people in search of teams or extending services, collaborating, etc., to better define a focused area?

Designer:
Maps
Mechanics (eventing)

Scripter:
Manipulation
Development

Writer:
Story
Dialog

Artist:
Parallax
Sprite / tile

Just a thought...

Alright, so I like where you're going with this, and I never thought of it this way. However, we have one problem with your plan. RM Skill: Writer, is what your RM Skill is set to currently. Writer takes up about 1/3 or 1/4 of the space. So, having Scripter: Development wouldn't work as it's too big. Script Dev, Script Manip, Art Parall, Art Sprite, etc. Doesn't flow to well together, and will be hard to depict in a sense to the newer members. So, we'd have to find something to classify each one individually to make it a short, and yet descriptive name. Mapper is an easy fix, however, the rest are quite hard to find.

I'll think on descriptive monikers through the day, and post what I come up with. Currently I'm at work so... But I'll definitely give it some more thought.

DE Maps
DE Mechs

AR Paralx
AR Sprite

WR Story
WR Dialog

SC Dev
SC Manip

[doublepost=1461203743][/doublepost]Other idea is if you can color code the text so you get a visual identifier of area with text based specifics of specialty.. Because I had forgotten about music.

OR, IF possible, have a secondary tag that's opened for use - so of you have a jack of all trades in one area, they can keep it general since they can cover that range, but then allow users to choose a specialty of they are more focused in terms of one strength.

I know it's generally bad form and poor UI to force users to retrain on how your platform is used, but maybe it's not an outright retraining as much as it is upgraded enhancement to better serve a communal potential.

I'll take this up with the rest of the staff, and see what we can come up with :) Thank you once again for the suggestion!
