Good Evening

Good evening. I'm newish to RPG Maker and hold much interest in the altogether. Most of my strength is in creative writing and solving story and continuity issues. However, that places me more with the 'idea guy' group than anything and I'm working on moving from that into a more technical and hands-on involvement with the RPG Maker series.

I can't say I started with any RPG Maker series, as it was mainly just attempting to see what it was about and then being discouraged by getting lost in several aspects of it. Being a bit older than I was when I attempted to use RPG Maker XP, I think I have the time and drive to go head-first in to MV and work with it appropriately.

I hope to learn from others in the forum and contribute where I can. Thanks.

I've never tried XP, so I can't say how complicated it is compared to MV, but MV is definitely accessible for even novices. The best way to get good at it is practice: maybe make a practice enemy and set up the stats of your fighters to take on that enemy or create a practice map and come up with ideas for puzzles. There's really no other way to do it.
Welcome to the forums. Glad to have you here. I hope I can be of service :)

Hello and welcome to the forums! Don't worry I'm sure you can manage to make a game without getting lost in the maker. Always seems incredibly easy but it's actually time consuming and fairly complicated but possible. Good luck and hope to see you around ^^

Thanks.

Part of my issue in the past (and its true with me for anything) is how deeply rooted things are.

I see RMMV (and any prior version) sort of like Excel (I LOVE Excel): It's straightforward to a point and then to get anything beyond generic I had to teach myself VBA. It's the beginning, where you want to do all the cool stuff and the frustration of not knowing how that grabs me, but I can power through it.

So far, a downsode of modules (plugins) seems to be debugging and knowing what is effecting what when testing. I haven't hit that point, but I will - just like Excel and VBA.

Right now I'm using the book "Make a 2D game in a weekend: with RMMV" to acclimate to the workflow and introduce myself to editing scripts.

I imagine I'll go through at least 10 or so small projects before I put the actual idea in my head to trial.

It's good to be here, and thanks.
