Crowdsourcing Site specifically for game developers?

You are correct. However, even though my reasoning is that I am in dire need of cash and the income from the final product would go to other projects not related to RMMV, the game I'm making isn't a scam. I plan to make it a great and creepy game to play with high replay value based on Difficulty Level and Different Endings.
That's pretty much why I would need crowdfunding myself lol. To fund the next project and the ability to pay better designers to help make it better than the first and so on slowly improving them more and more as I go basically. (also for Greenlight License but yeah that's just to get it on Steam). Other than that, don't really need it for like the project, but moreso for the people working on it with me. Mine would never be scams either, since I'm a very dedicated developer and I know the pain gamers go through when someone pulls that crap (Have dealt with it with about 60 games over my years so I know how it feels to be screwed out of "good looking/sounding" games because of that). But yeah the primary goal for any real crowdfunding is literally that of making enough to make the next project for the most part. (I have all of the 3D dev engines too just lack the experience to work with those heh so haven't bothered but if I could get knowledgable people to help out with that stuff in the long run, I bet I'd be able to make a few good projects from it)

@Xyphien Yaay, finally almost up. I am willing to get my project on there :D Well, not the main project I am working on since that is way bigger but a smaller one I am working on. With a budget of around 100-200 dollars.

@Sinnistar All true. However, the other reason why the budget goal, for me, is $3000 instead of $30,000 is because the team is just myself. I would make the graphics, maps, events, music, SFX, etc. The budget goal would help me get it done and released faster.

Yeah it makes sense. I don't think I would have need of anything that high for quite some time heh. $100-300 is plenty to fund a few good projects using RM MV for me, since I do most of it myself as well. But beyond that once I have a few good ones up and running on steam and such, then yeah I'd have to further that goal for more detailed and 3D realistic style games. I've worked on MMO's before as a world designer so it wouldn't be my first time working on the graphics side heh, but am new to everything else in 3D engines. Definitely a good goal for ya to set, and a more reasonable one rather than over ambitious like a bunch of the solo developers out there (have seen goals of $120k and up lol for crap projects)

$3,000 is a reasonable budget, if you'd like to PM me to become one of the first backers that would be fine.

That is more than fine, I replied to your PM by the way.

Also, just for appearance's sake, I'm gonna suggest "standards" for images used to promote projects. For example, ideally, images should be the same size as the window they are displayed in so you don't get amateurish-looking cutoffs xD

To crop or edit an image in such a way should be very cheap or easy for the project maker to do, and improve overall quality and appearance.

I think with me I'd need around $2000-2500 (that's by my rough calculations). The reason for this isn't necessarily for developing my project alone. A part of it would go towards the costs of the next projects and their marketing, since I'm hoping to make at least one commercial game (with various other resources, such as accompanying novel).

My current project is more of a "labour of love" than anything else, so presently all the moneys I invest in the game come from my pay cheque each month for many of the assets I use in it. I do have a very small game dev team and we're kind of working on it as side-projects. My main issue with crowdfunding as a whole - and why I haven't pursued too seriously into it - is work. Sometimes, shifts are scattered so I don't have the time that's needed to invest properly in a game.

When Otherworld is completed and I can focus on other planned projects, including The Adventures of Tryggr, The Gladiator Project and the Paranormality series, things will have settled down a bit more to spend more practical time working on them.

I still get a lot of updates from all those projects backed. It is an awesome feeling to help out the Indie game devs, particularly those that have made really unique applications with RPG Maker.

I'm still a believer in paying for the work when it's actually done, not before it's done. Too easy to scam people with video game promises. Heck, even AAAs do it. Best to wait in my opinion. I respect the Indies that give a DEMO with an option to buy full game afterwards. Course I'm old school like that. The most backed games are the really trusted ones.

I just can't see a strong reason to "back" a game unless well, I have a lot of money to throw away..because backing games AND buying other non-RPG Maker games would rack up the bills pretty quick.

I have backed a total of 3 games. One has failed thanks to a company breakup, and the other 2 I've been waiting for over 2 years to play. I could of used that money for something else..and should've waited. I just lost my confidence in indie devs lately. ._.

That really sucks man, For my own project wich I hope it gets accepted on a funding website, I'd only raise an amount of around 100$. The donating options are between 1-5 dollars with different rewards. The reason for this is that it is my first time funding something and I also believe that creating the game itself is an investment for the dev. You don't want to depend wether someone is crowdfunding your project or not. I think if more people kept the money they needed or the funding options lower it might actually improve the trust donators have in your company.

Donating is in my opinion more a way of sympatising with a dev and its project (Hope I made my point clear XD)

@Macro I tend to agree, but I will intuitively back games that really jump out at me. One such game I backed almost from the beginning was Tavern Simulator (really good game, but a little too "routine"). Still enjoy playing it too! Another one turned out to be such a disaster I stopped backing anything for a while.

I'd still prefer paying for games after a demo is available or it's completed (even if it is buggy for updates). And, come to think about it, I like @samorious 's idea of donations much better.

A lot of indie devs (especially when they're just starting) tend towards trying to get their first project crowdfunded and the game ends up being just plain crap! It would be better in my opinion to release maybe a shorter free game or two first to become established before moving onto more ambitious projects. Donations first, then larger funding. It's what I'm doing with Otherworld but without any donations.

I don't mind backing or crowdfunding games at all. I have money to invest, but to me it has to be GOOD. And, yes, if the project doesn't work out, I'd EXPECT to get it back. That'd be like investing in a new computer or car that turns out to be a complete non-refundable lemon.

Sometimes it is the little rewards I get that determines how much I fund. One game that made it to Steam, I did the 'Town Mayor' contribution level. I got a merchant NPC and a Boss determination for that, plus I get all future chapters automatically. It is fun to be part of the game dev team as a backer.

Oh definitely. Those little perks or rewards can make all the difference! Especially if, as a backer, you feel you're really getting something for your money instead of just a game with little or no returns. I actually stopped funding after Fortune's Tavern (Tavern Simulator), but now I'm ready to start funding again.(glad)

Do you guys still care about RMMV though? Seems like all the effort is going into the crowdfunding site lately. :( I don't know I just get the feeling RMMV is taking a backseat because we have problems here like editing issues, mood setting being messed up, RT pack not being released after an entire day, etc. Kind of demotivating me to be honest that this Crowdfunding thing is getting so much priority when RMMV is barely off the ground.

@Macro I've been watching these changes in the forum for long enough now. Yeah, it was a bit more calm and laid back when ppl left in February but still kinda normal. The forum is changing right now and don't know whether i like it or not. Wish we could get that funny time and activity back though...

@Xyphien is it part of rmmv website then or not ? I mean if it allows all kind of games even board games and stuff if it even still makes sense...? It would look kinda weird, wouldn't it ?
