Meet the Writing Team!

Micro

Dragon Goddess
Hey guys!

I wanted to make this thread as a way for you all to get to know the Writing Team (also known as the Writing Wizards... according to me) a little better, so if you have any questions for us, ask away! Feedback, suggestions and general chatter about our team/writing are all highly encouraged.

Basically, I want us to be really involved with the community and have everyone pretty much be right next to us every step of the way while we are working on resources. We want to hear your ideas so we can make better stuff for YOU!

First thing's first, here are the members of our team: @Micro @MinisterJay @C. D. Cerda

If you're interested in joining our team, I'd love to hear from you =) Feel free to send me a PM about it anytime and we can discuss it!

let's see, uhh... I'm not so good with this kind of stuff, but basically we're going to be a pretty laid-back/friendly team, and our main focus will be collaboration. I want the Writing Team to work on lots of things together: quests, plot ideas, world ideas, new races, lore ideas, etc ... and whatever you guys request!

other than collaboration, I want us to become very involved with the community, so being active will be important!

we're still a pretty new team, so we'll keep getting better with everyone's help =)

anyways... that's all I can think of saying for now, but I hope to hear from all of you guys soon! Ask away, and we'll try to answer your questions as best we can. ^_^

Meet MinisterJay, Writing RT Staff Member:

I LOVE to write. I have been writing short stories and poetry for over 35 years. This writing grew even more when I was a player, and particularly a dungeon master for the 1st Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons RPG. I hold a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology, with a minor in English. I have been published in two magazines: Hot-Psychology Magazine and Mission Health Magazine. In addition, I was Chief Editor for the Comic Collector's Guild, and am currently Chief Editor for Strawberry Mission Field Magazine. I have been a member of Writers Beat for almost 10 years, and serve my first year there as Discussions Moderator. I love to take notes and am a document-er. I am a commissioned tutor with specialty areas of Homework, Writing Homework, MBA, and Law School. Legal pad or notebook is with me wherever I go. Might leave it the car sometimes... (smile)

Have you ever written any romance stories, @MinisterJay?
Do NOT judge by the title. I wrote a non-finished work that was title My Demonic Friends. The main character was being wooed by a succubus. Later on, they were forced to have each other's blood mixed with their own. Main human character had a crush on her. A relationship was starting to develop, and then I jumped unto my next uncompleted work.

Meet the Squirrel King:

I'm C.D. Cerda, or LordSquirrel if ya want. I've written articles, blogs, and reviews for games, movies and books. I enjoy playing strategy and building games, but I also enjoy a good shooter, or RPG when their available. My favourite movie in terms of pure awesomeness is Pacific Rim, but my favourite in terms of just being a good story is split between I Am Legend, and Beauty and the Beast. My favourite book is Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, and my favourite genres of music are classical, country and rock.

I am currently writing my own game, Legend of Amara, a series of short stories and dabbling in the possibility of a light novel. I have written for several projects, though none of them are out yet, and I have secretly conquered the world with my army of terminator style mechasquirrel infiltrators- I mean... Uh... I like to cook.... and stuff... YOU SAW NOTHING!

To the team: Do you think writing can make a bigger impact that drawn artwork? I notice writers tend to get less attention, especially the artists that draw cute stuff. People tend to flock to the chibi and cute little girl/boy/animal art as if it's free candy.

Pictures require little time for us to process, and with this new generation of "Ain't Nobody Got Time for That!", in my opinion it seems reading is becoming less prevalent in this (perceived) era of lazy readers. I'm guilty of falling into that category myself sometimes, but not always. I can thank JRPGs for that though, because the combo of cut scenes and gameplay are just so much more fun for me.

How do you plan to garner attention to your hard work?

@Macro

I think that, in general, writing alone cannot make as big of an impact as artwork, but only at a glance. For those who take the time to read stuff, they can step into a new world entirely--a world that offers lasting satisfaction! But I think the best thing to do is to combine writing with artwork to create a truly immersive experience--like, say, a video game!

No matter what, there will always be an audience for all types of art (writing, drawing, music, etc)... but I feel like it is easiest to enjoy drawn art since it offers instant gratification/visual stimulation.

I think it is good, as a writer, to consider your audience and what types of people you are writing for. Since we are on a game forum, most people will prefer writing that is shown/narrated through a video game--the type of writing you can actually be a real part of. A story that you can make YOUR OWN!

My plan is to work closely with the community to gauge their interests and create things that everyone can use and enjoy. Writing is a very flexible thing that can take on MANY forms--technical writing in the form of tutorials, creative writing (short stories, lore, character biographies) and miscellaneous things like creating items and their unique descriptions.

We have a choice of being as simple or as detailed as we want, and that is going to be our main "weapon"--flexibility in writing.

For instance, I seek to inspire people with the things I write, so I'm creating a character/story generator that offers a small prompt for a person struggling to create story. I also created a lengthy list of items and "funny" descriptions as requested by @DarcHiro ... so I think we, the Writing Team, won't have too much of a problem getting our name out there once we actually start releasing these RT Packs and becoming more involved with the community.

I want us to be a team that is lauded for being fun, laid-back, friendly and active within the community, the team that always is there to create things to inspire greatness in all of you. Together, we can make some cool stuff!

So, to answer your question briefly: The Writing Team will garner attention by being an active part of the community and creating stuff that people want to see and use in their projects. =)

Thanks for the great question and feedback, I really appreciate it!
@MinisterJay @C. D. Cerda would you like to offer your views as well? ^_^

@Macro : In my opinion, let us look at this as the same way as developing an RPG. The game takes the combination of artwork, music, plugins, and dialogue. For the game to be awesome, it takes ALL parts. The parts work together. Each has a different purpose or function, but it has to work together with other components to make its own part even more awesome. In RT, each part is just as important as the other. It a team. Team members work together. Some may get front billing, and others may work behind the scenes. Each team member may have a specialized talent, but when the team works together, that is when we can optimize and expand on the potential greatness, that only a team can achieve.
