Hmm since I really didn't create many tiles yet I can't give you any advice about it. But I do like editing them, recoloring, rearranging and stuff. You can create new stuff by just putting two rtp tiles together and edit it a bit, draw a bit on it, connect it, that's fun~
I either try to make games in completely rtp (but also tend to use stuff I find on the internet/here) or I make the whole game stylized with simple pixelart (idk what it's even called, fe these old pokémon graphics for gb) but since I'm lazy and perfectionist I mostly just stick to the rtp. It might not even seem like it but there's so much you can do just with the rtp and especially with the mv one. People won't ever believe XD

This, completely this! I always wind up resorting to RTP to save time.

I create my own tiles, whenever possible. If I'm using a resource pack, though, I tend to work with the DS+ pack. (cheeky)

If you're just starting out, a good way to learn how to make or edit tiles is to work with the default materials. If you start with small edits, it's a lot easier to figure out the shading styles and learn to make things yourself. That said, if you can make something good using only the default assets, more power to you!

It's the default standard resources pack which comes with the maker XD "run time package" and you need it to even run the games as far as i know (dunno if it's still the same with mv tho). So yeah, the standard stuff XD

RTP comes now with MV. if you have MV, you have it's RTP.

while i do like some custom tiles, you can get far with RTP and program called TileD.

I use mostly the RTP stuff, but if I can find others, I might try them out too. I'd like to have a variety, if possible ... if they blend well with the RTP, anyways. I personally love a lot of Pandamaru's stuff and use them at times. =) Her work is great!

I use mostly DLC's, in fact, I rarely ever use RTP, not because I don't like them but because a majority of my games cannot be expressed fully with the RTP. DLC's on the other hand usually have exactly what I need.

At first, I 'll use the existing titel then when it comes to the betaversion, I will use my own title that I´ll make. I think this is the best way tu do it.

Hey,

For my game I created custom graphics for almost every thing including tiles. There isn't really a best way to do it. I highly suggest though using reference images. It takes a lot of practise. And them I mean a lot.

It took me over 5 months of learning before I was able to create some decent looking graphics. But maybe that is just because it was the first time, I had no experience and am an perfectionist.

Hope I didnt discourage you too much. Just be patient about it and it will work out :-)

I like "and am an perfectionist" the most in your post :D
My neighbor keeps telling me it will ruin my game in the end, but I don't belive him ! :D

As a newbie and an artist, I really like custom tiles. I've probably been going about using them wrong, because I resize tiles meant for VX Ace to use in MV and it doesn't always work correctly. But I think they're ultra cool! I'm probably just gonna stick to the default tiles for now. Maybe someone here knows how to convert tilesets?
