Side Shooting - RPG - Action Adventure hybrid ???

Hi RPG makers

I am very new to the world of RPG and am learning as I go, testing loads and failing much but winning sometimes lol

and with each step I do believe i will get to a point where I can create my dream game, a sieries in the style of 90s point and click adventure with elements of a side scrolling shooter mixed with an RPG levelling system.

So a Side Shooting - RPG - Action Adventure hybrid (ambitious I know right!) however that is the dream and what I aim to work towards...

I have no idea how to write plugins however my logic is that if a dog can be trained to fly a space rocket, I can learn how to script... I am an artist and video editor and have

dabbled in animation so creating sprites is a little tricky but not hard for me personally.

I have a lot of trial and error ahead, and will be starting a blog in the near future to chart my progress on my developments and The Dream so you guys and girls will be able to follow my insanity and read my vaige ramblings

A slight cliché for Noobs as I have been looking through the forums and found many wanting to create a commercial game to sell... I digress I am such a Noob... yes I do want to create a game using this engine for commercial use able able to sell to the public, and that is the plan...

However I just want to make a game I will enjoy... The type of game I have always wanted to play... and be able to share this with others...

So a Side Shooting - RPG - Action Adventure hybrid... I am working with the new RPG maker MV
below are a list of things I want to be able to achieve.

1) Make a playable Actor get bigger and smaller as they travel to the top and bottom of the screen, Like that of "Monkey Island TM"... if a player walks into the background they get smaller and if they walk back to the front of the screen they return to normal size.

- I have toyed with having the Actor hit an event which animates them to the top of the screen into the background and back using events... however I would much prefer if I could

- also if impossible how can i change an actors sprite on the same map... say from a big sprite to a tiny sprite... i believe this is possible with events.

2) have a side scrolling action battle system... for side scrolling shooting and slashing i.e. Zelda 2 style... However depending on what weapon is equipped I want a different animation style for my Actor.

- I do believe this can be achieved in events but most probably needs a plugin of some kind.

Basically I aim to create a whole game from scratch using no elements graphically, visually and audibly from what comes with the engine.

Check out a test sprite i created, I am working with this sort of style of Actor...
also this is available for you guys to use and edit... I uploaded this for people to use... as its not a final design, just a test or placeholder I have created to use in my tests... so please do not ridicule the animation as of yet... I do know some of the pixels are off... however you can use it and edit this if you want...

Basically I am in the "I have only created my 1st sprite stage" of making the game... however once the project gets into full steam, I will be making a blog and posting videos and pics...

Am looking forward to any feedback you have and discussing my idea for a game...

1) BustedED has a game in which he explains ton of usefull stuff, including how to make fake 3d maps. Chech this video, it's in the beggining

2) there are no action rpg oriented plugins that i know of, yet. your best bet would be to hire some good coder to do that for you.

That is awesome... Thank you so much buddy... this is a great starting point for me to tinker from

thanks a lot
[doublepost=1455641669,1455639375][/doublepost]To be honest the whole fake 3d thing is driving me crazy... as I am trying everything to make my character decrees in size as they travel towards the background and then grow in size as they travel back to the foreground...

I think I will need some heavy plugins to do this...

I recommend making a few smaller games and mini-games first. Then let the forum critique, critique, and critique. It is better to get it here before putting it before the vultures in the big times, Steam in particular. Putting a bunch of free demos and free mini-games will get you exposure and some name recognition.

Well as you know I've made a demo for you. Posted here: Click to View
...but further searching has brought me to Quasi's Movement Plugin: Click here to view which also seems like it could work even better for what you need... I'm still testing this though. (cool)

This looks like the best hope for that issue: Quasi ABS: Plugin (Still in Developement): Click here to view

Yes indeed I will not be applying a game to steam for some years yet... I was only referring to the motions of the developing project not the actual steam store (right)

I have so much to learn and so many challenges ahead of me... and in the near future I will be posting small previews and contextualised tests of the dream project.

The community is so helpful here and I am looking forward to sharing my creations with you all (smile)

Wow

There are some really cool mechanics at play here especially the, collision maps and image based collision, This is really an eye opener Thank you so much again for your input and help.

It's one of those cosmetic things that is quite difficult to do without a lot of external thinking, using pictures is one way... but then you'dalso have to do that with all enemies-- I simply wouldn't recommend Fake3D in RPGmaker period.

So I haven't done a lot of reading, but what I do know is you want baseline gameplay down first.

Contrary to popular belief, you can do most of what you are saying without need for a single plugin.

Side-scrolling can be emulated via simple event manipulation, shooting is a little trickier, but now impossible.

How do I know?

Well, I've done it... loosely and in the WIP stages for MV, but I've done it.

And you basically want a less vertical version of that.

I suggest playing some grid-locked sideview games, such as Abe's oddysee or Xargon to get a feel for what exactly you want, then go nuts getting that feel.

Hhere's a simple-non-action Sideview based game with VX Ace, but it could be upscaled to MV easily and function no different.

And parts of this are sideview, but it's essentially a top down game because it means aoe's can be more varied and fun to dodge.

Would be awesome to gather some information on how you actually implemented some of these mechanics and techniques you are using in the 1st video... overall a great look at what the engine in capable of... did you do this with just events or are there plugins at work here ... where did you begin with your reserch or is this all of your own tinkering...

much appreciated for the post.

Well, there is a plugin at work, but essentially it's just a short quick way of doing baseline engine functionality.

Researching variables and their extensions is an excellent place to start. Just playing around with them and the different values.

Most of it is my own tinkering and intuition, though keep in mind I've been using RPGmaker since VX so I have a fair bit of knowledge already.
