Prompt Contest!

Today we are happy to announce our first ever PROMPT CONTEST. The contest is a great way for you to flex your writing muscles. Participating will earn you fantastic things—from participation badges all the way to Steam games and cash prizes!

The prompt contest runs as following: there will be an announced prompt and all members of the forum will have the opportunity to take the announced prompt and create a 250-500 word synopsis of a story that could be brought forth from the prompt. The most creative and interesting prompts will win one of several prizes after being voted on by the forum staff. Only one staff member will know who wrote which prompt to keep the voting fair and unbiased.

RULES

1. One prompt per member
2. 250-500 words, no exceptions

Please feel free to be as creative as you can. While everyone is starting from the same basic foundation, we want to see how you can make the prompt your own. Ways to make the prompt your own include: creating a fascination character or party of characters, developing a unique plotline, and utilizing the given elements as a way to deepen your story while not relying on it to completely guide your path.


PROMPT
HERO/HEROINE wakes up in the middle of a seemingly dark and scary forest. Out of nowhere, the plants come aglow with blues, greens, and purples. A gentle humming buzz can be heard echoing throughout the once-dark forest. Surely this cannot be a hallucination?

1. How are words counted?

I just wrote a story, which has a few words with dashes (-), which Word counts as a single word. I currently have 496 words, so I'm in a danger zone.

@JibstaMan, you don't need to worry about that. The word processor program I use does not count them as words, and I will be sure to double check entries that are just over the mark if they utilize dashes just in case. Can't wait to see your entry!

I think one potential reason is not to know who wrote it, and vote on the merit of the piece and not the popularity of the person.

@Bizarre Monkey, just as @MinisterJay says--It's to limit the knowledge of who wrote which piece. Xy and I are the ones who have access to the submissions. The staff, who will see the entries by number (and not by who wrote it) will then vote on the entries that they think are best.
