Hi CynicSYndrome. Welcome to RMMV Forums. The hardest thing to learn about MV is patience. The great thing is that you can make a full-blown game basically with what comes with the engine. It is the extra perks that take the time. Within this forum, we have a whole lot of people that desire to help others.

Thanks Amysaurus. I have been at it about a week. I am curious about plugins but I think I'm gonna wait to experiment with those until I have a better understanding of what the software can do on it's own. As for playing around, I have been doing that exactly. I taught myself how to make a functioning elevator and call system using events. And I've since been experimenting with dungeon puzzles. I have only really used variables, conditional branches, and transports. that leaves so much unexplored in event creation. what would be the next logical thing to experiment with?

Hello @CynicSyndrome and welcome to our forum~ Just play a bit with the maker. Most of the features are self-explaining and you learn best by doing. Few things are very simple some more difficult. Just look around we also have a lot of tutorials here and feel free to ask if you need help. There are a lot of experienced and nice ppl here :) Have fun~

I'd suggest what you can do to improve your skills but everyone already said the best ones, just play with it, do things, once familiar challenge yourself to do something you've never done yet. The experience keeps on increasing and you end up doing things you never thought of doing before. I went from using RTP to editing/clumping tiles, creating custom title screens with events, parallax mapping, to a drawing, and to programming. I'm now a Jack Of all Trades, and I only started hmmm 6-7months ago. In other words, enjoy yourself and have fun, it won't take long before you're asking about programming with javascript lol. Anyways welcome aboard and I look forward to seeing you around, don't be scared to ask any question in MV Support. See you around. Cheers :D.

It helps when you know the fundamentals from the old engines such as: RM2K, RM2K3, RMXP, RMVX etc. Once accustomed, it becomes less hard to know what to do, while adapting to new features as well. Welcome aboard the MV X-Press and I wish you best of luck ^^

Well this is my first game maker of any kind. I'm picking it up pretty quickly. In a way it's good I'm not used to older versions. I don't miss any of the old features I keep hearing about.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

I'm in no way experienced, but my only advice would be to take it slow and play around with some of the features to learn how they work. I'm sure there are a lot of great people here who can answer any questions you may have. :)
Enjoy your stay!

@CynicSyndrome by no means would I call myself an expert... actually I'm still a newbie
But if you have any questions I have played with Rpg Maker 2003-VX Ace... I've yet to get MV though...
I appreciate the offer. I'm definitely in love with MV. I tend to figure things out for myself, but that usually leads to more questions. I've started a few threads here already. Between this site and youtube my few questions get answered pretty quickly.
