I feel like, in the spirit of the holiday, we should share any scary/creepy stories we have. I can start with one!
The Ghost That I Know
Have you ever had a “supernatural” experience? I don’t mean anything like demonic possessions or things floating in the air. I mean little hints like something falling off a shelf that was perfectly sturdy or something else being put in a completely random area of the house. I’ve had this happen before, and you’d be surprised at how natural it felt to me.
My mom was diagnosed with cancer when I was in the 6th grade, and it completely devastated me. It was at that point that I couldn’t even go to school and finish out the year. She was fine for a while, but then she started going in for treatments, chemotherapy, checkups, almost anything we could do for her and it still didn’t work. She decided in the end to stay at home for whatever time she had left and I couldn’t even attend my last week of school because I was so worried. Everyone was enjoying their last few days in class, and I was at home taking care of my mom. It was only a matter of time before she succumbed to it. Here she was, surrounded by friends and family, and not one of us could do a thing about it. I felt powerless. Her funeral was held here in some memorial place that I can’t remember, but she wanted to be buried next to my grandpa and my uncle, who both died a year earlier.
Returning home, I had to learn how to adapt to living without my mom when it first started. I went to my room to try and calm myself down, when I felt an unusually cold chill down my spine. I passed it off as nothing and went to sleep. The next year, I was in the play area helping my stepmom with babysitting, when I heard something fall from one of our kitchen shelves. I went to go check it out, and some cereal was all over the floor with one of the cabinets wide open. Another year, I wake up in the morning to find my blanket tossed into the far corner of the room, completely opposite of where my bed is. That may have been me, but I honestly don’t know to this day. I accepted it as my mom still reminding me that she’s still around the house and that she’s always there for me.
One day, my dad receives a notification that we haven’t been paying rent for the past few months and that our realtor has been embezzling the money, and we get kicked out of our house. The house is immediately put on the market and is bought up by some other family. We get evicted and have to stay at a relative’s house until we can find some stable place to live. Well, not ALL of us. I just hope that whoever’s living there now isn’t afraid of ghosts, because I doubt my mom’s happy about us gone.
