These paintings are made to appear as if the paper in them has been torn, for purposes such as to make an area look more destroyed, or for puzzles in which one would need to cut a painting.
I just threw one of these together for a horror project I was working on and thought, hey, might as well make them all this way and upload them to the site. I don't know how obvious it looks that they're torn, but they work for me, so hopefully they'll work for you too.
